Sensible Price, sensible features, super sound
With the disappearance of the Google Chromecast Audio a number of years ago, the affordable options available to those who wanted to dip into music streaming with a simple casting solution suddenly became more daunting.
Take a risk on a Chinese no-name adapter that was maybe questionable in terms of support and security, or spend significantly more for a more traditional Hifi brand alternative that may be tied to it’s own control system of would support Google Cast, but not Apple Airplay (which it would be reasonable to expect for the extra).
Add in more recent options – such as Tidal Connect and Spotify Connect – and there was further confusion as to whether that was supported!
The Wiim Pro is a welcome addition to the market, it supports both Apple Airplay and Google Cast, plus Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, Roon Ready Certification (and thats before you consider it’s DLNA and Amazon Alexa support).
It also brings a fleshed out roster of connections compared to it’s cheaper non-Pro brother – of particular interest to us is the Ethernet port, the traditional RCA outputs and SPDIF and Toslink digital outputs.
Plus the Wiim Pro could be the blessing some people are looking for, who would normally dabble with Raspberry Pis, HATs, and flashing microSD cards to get something approaching an affordable streaming solution (prices and availability of Pis has practically ruined the Maker market recently).
